Entries

Any hunter/client submitting an entry for the Mountain Hunter Record Book must have harvested the animal with a member in good standing with the Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia (GOABC), the Yukon Outfitters Association (YOA) and the Association of Mackenzie Mountain Outfitters (AMMO). The Mountain Hunter Record Book entries are eligible from 1966 as long as they meet all entry and minimum score requirements.

Animals that have been measured by a Certified Mountain Hunter Measurer and whose scores meet the current Mountain Hunter Record Book minimum standards are eligible for the Mountain Hunter Record Book.

There are rifle, muzzle loader and archery categories that the animals will be ranked separately based on the method used.

All Mountain Hunter Record Book entries must be received in the GOABC office one year prior to publication of the Record Book (publication date to be announced).  All Record Book entries will be added to Mountain Hunter’s up to date on-line Record Book annually.  The Method of Entry Forms must be accompanied by the fee of $30.00 (CAD Funds) for each entry submitted.

Application

Filling out the entry form:

Each animal must be recorded individually on a separate Mountain Hunter Record Book Entry Form.  Guide Outfitter territories and/or specific harvest sites will not be listed in the general record book or for on line viewing unless specifically requested by the outfitter.  Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

Top Ten Certification

All entries that rank in the top 10 of a category and all entries nominated for a major award must be certified, this means they must be measured by a Certified Mountain Hunter Measurer other than the host Guide Outfitter 60 days or more after the date of the kill. All top10 entries must be accompanied by a photograph.

A Mountain Hunter Measurer may not accept payment for measuring trophies. Entry fees may be collected only for registration purposes.

Record Book Awards

The Mountain Hunter Record Book awards will be presented annually at the GOABC Convention. These awards will be chosen by the Mountain Hunter Record Book Committee from Record Book entries that were taken during the awards period. The major awards are given for the top entries. To be eligible for these awards the entry or entrant must;

  • Have been taken during the appropriate time period, which is January 1st through December 31st of the previous year.
  • Have been measured by a Certified Mountain Hunter Measurer other than the host outfitter 60 days or more after the date of kill, and is subject to the Mountain Hunter Record Book Committee’s review.
  • Have hunted with a guide outfitter member who is a GOABC member in good standing.

Slam Awards may be ordered for an applicable fee by a hunter/client upon completion of any and all of the Mountain Hunter Slams.

Once a Slam has been approved by the Record Book Committee, the appropriate award will be ordered and shipped directly to the hunter/client or may be presented at the Annual GOABC Convention

Measurers

All Mountain Hunter measurers must be recognized and approved by the Mountain Hunter Record Book committee.  To become a certified measurer one must pass the Mountain Hunter Record Book written exam.  Candidates may complete the Mountain Hunter measurers' course by correspondence or attend a certified Mountain Hunter measurers' training session.

Those that are currently official Boone & Crockett, S.C.I, or Pope & Young measurers shall be recognized as having the qualifications to be a certified Mountain Hunter measurer.

The Mountain Hunter Record Book measurer's manual is available for a fee of $50.00 (CAD Funds).

Scoring

All entries may be measured immediately (green) therefore no drying out period is necessary. However, any animal that ranks in the overall top 10 Record Book category, or that is nominated for a major award, must be measured by a Certified Mountain Hunter Measurer other than the host Guide Outfitter 60 days or more after the harvest date.

Measuring Tools, Methods & Fractions

Measurements will be accepted in the Imperial measurement system. Measurements are to be taken with a flexible ¼ inch steel measuring tape.

Skull measurements
Skull measurements should be taken with a pair of calipers and are to be measured to the nearest 1/16th of an inch.

Measurements that occur halfway or more between 1/16th of an inch are to be rounded to the next higher 1/16th, while those measuring less than halfway between 1/16th are to be rounded down to the next lower 1/16th. All fractions must be noted on the entry form in 1/16th of an inch: 1/16, 2/16, 3/16, 4/16 etc.

Damaged and/or repaired trophies
Only the original horn, antler or skull material from a repaired trophy may be measured. It must be in its original state or acceptably put back together so as not to increase any measurement.

Sawn-apart or split skulls
All animals with split and rejoined skulls do not qualify for entry in the Mountain Hunter Record Book.

Re-measurement

The Mountain Hunter Record Book Committee reserves the right to review and re-measure any entry at any time. The owner of an entry to be re-measured is expected to cooperate fully with the Committee; failure to do so will result in the trophy being eliminated from the Record Book. The new measurement must be submitted on a new entry form. The re-measurement box should be checked, the former score and entry number filled, in if known. No fees will apply to entries that are reviewed and re-measured, and re-entered into the Mountain Hunter Record Book.

Declaration

Every entry form must have the following statement signed and dated:

I certify that, to the best of my knowledge, I took this animal without violating the wildlife laws or ethical hunting practices of the province or territory in which I hunted.
